A wooden memorial church in the southeastern part of the citadel marks the site of the former metropolitan cathedral.\n- Built in 1921–1922, the cathedral was ready in time for the coronation of King Ferdinand and Queen Marie as monarchs of Greater Romania on October 15, 1922. This event, which took place in the same city where the Union of Transylvania with Romania occurred on December 1, 1918, was meant to give the union added symbolic and religious weight: Ferdinand, a Roman Catholic, objected to being crowned inside an Orthodox church, so the coronation ceremony was held outside in the courtyard."},{"content":"https://albaiuliaqr.ro/catedrala-incoronarii/","type":"link"},{"metadata":{"height":1080,"width":810},"version":1,"type":"img","content":"https://firebasestorage.googleapis.com/v0/b/freeguides-prod.appspot.com/o/assets%2Ftours%2FzyheXbRFnhOs4nHVI91X%2Fstop_1_2.png?alt=media&token=49609fec-0bfa-4cf7-9755-736c8e032fd2"}],"location":{"longitudeDelta":0.14321712068773834,"longitude":23.569590950000023,"latitude":46.06863911648402,"latitudeDelta":0.09219986310369421}},{"location":{"latitudeDelta":0.09219986310369421,"latitude":46.06776671648351,"longitude":23.570130199999994,"longitudeDelta":0.14321712068773834},"address":"Roman-Catholic Cathedral Saint Michael","media":[{"type":"text","content":"- The construction of the first cathedral was begun in 1009, but during the Mongol invasion of 1241, it was destroyed.
