The building has simple and diaphanous lines and it is distributed over three storeys, connected via ramps, skylights and large interior windows.\n\n\n### Made of concrete and glass, Palma’s **Es Baluard Museu d’Art Modern i Contemporani contains a collection of over 700 works,** most of which are from the late 19th century to the present day. \n\n\n### An ancient water cistern from 1640 in the basement, we find the **Aljub**, a unique space in Es Baluard. This former rectangular freshwater cistern dates back to 1640 and has been transformed into a museum exhibition space. \n\n\n### The water that it stored was used to supply the nearby **Puig de Sant Pere neighbourhood** and the boats that arrived at the port. This water came from the fountain of La Vila and entered the city from the gate of Santa Margalida until reaching the cistern my means of an aqueduct-channel. When the bastion fell into disuse, the cistern was converted into a rubbish dump. \n\n\n### Luckily, with the museum’s construction, it was rediscovered and incorporated into **Es Baluard** It is currently used for a variety of purposes, hosting exhibitions, concerts and avant-garde music, dance, theatre, performance art, sound poetry and circus shows.\n\n\n### In the outdoor space known as Les Arcs, collectives and social entities come together to exchange opinions, share works and spread ideas in line with the museum’s philosophy.\n\n\n\n### The inauguration of Es Baluard added considerable value to the San Pere neighbourhood, which dates back to the **Arab period**, although its maximum splendour was achieved during **Renaissance times**.\n\n\n### Es Baluard also hosts a tower in the city wall and a spectacular open-air terrace, over the ancient **Aljub**, which ends in a splendid balcony that overlooks the quay and the Bay of Palma, from where it is possible to view the cathedral and the **Bellver castle**. Not surprisingly, many luxury designers such as **Rolex, Louis Vuitton, Carolina Herrera**, have installed themselves here, and the area has been nicknamed the **Golden Mile**.\n\n### Restaurants and cafeterias with terraces are ideally placed for people watching.\n\n### You may have heard the word **born** before, in other towns in Spain. It signifies an area for games, such as jousting tournaments between knights in the middle ages. The avenue was actually once a kind of estuary until the great flood of 1403 turned the adjoining streets into terrible sewers.\n\n### The avenue has undergone many alterations since the time of medieval knights. A restructuring took place in 1833, which is when the Jacinto Mateu Sureda's Sphinxes were added, and the **Turtle Fountain** installed. In 1863 an effigy of Isabel II was inaugurated, but was pulled down five years later during the revolution.\n\n### The well-kept promenade is an attraction in itself and worth strolling down at leisure, admiring the architecture on each side. The striking building in which **Zara is housed, was once Borne's famous cinema**. On the same side of the road, you'll come across **Casal Solleric**. It's an 18th century converted mansion which now hosts temporary art exhibitions; there's also a **Tourist Office** here if you're after more information about what to do and see in Palma.\n\n### Watch the world go by on the terraced seating of popular Bar Bosch; or if you prefer to escape the bustle of shoppers, head into **Rialto Café**, and after a coffee, peruse their exhibition room upstairs. \n\n### Along the same street of C/ de Sant Feliu, wander into the Gerhardt **Braun Art Gallery** for some wow-factor contemporary art installations, or visit the exhibition at nearby **Kewenig Gallery**. There are a number of restaurants where you can stop for lunch in Palma.\n\n### From Paseo del Borne you can explore the historic streets of Palma's old town, and walk to the iconic **Cathedral La Seu or Almudaina Palace**. Since then, the cathedral of Palma de Mallorca has undergone several modifications. **The most significant was the one carried out by Gaudí in 1904**.\n\n### Built in the **Mediterranean Gothic style**, the cathedral of Palma de Mallorca follows the pattern of the Barcelona cathedral. It differs from the Castilian ones, which are characterized by their classic Gothic style. \n\n### The cathedral of Palma de Mallorca has a basilica or hall plan. It has three naves divided into eight sections by octagonal pillars. \n\n### The building has three chapels at the head and several side chapels between the buttresses.\n\n### On the outside you can appreciate the strong horizontality of the Mediterranean Gothic. We can find three facades in the cathedral of Palma de Mallorca. \n\n### The Portada Mayor, in the Plateresque style and dedicated to the Virgin. **The Portada de la Almoina, where the Immaculate Conception appears**. \n\n### Finally, there is also the **Portada del Mirador or Portada de los Apostoles**. This one stands out for its ornamentation based on geometric and vegetable motifs.\n\n### The western façade is not the original one, but a neo-Gothic restoration from the 19th century. It was intended to solve a problem of inclination present since previous centuries.\n\n### The main decorative element that can be seen in the cathedral of Palma de Mallorca with attention is its enormous rose window. **It is the largest in Europe**, with the same diameter as the one in Strasbourg Cathedral. It is decorated with plant and geometric motifs that form a star of David.\n\n### The interior of the cathedral of Palma de Mallorca houses interesting altarpieces in different styles. The most fascinating is the one in the **Chapel of the Monarchs of Mallorca**. It is the family pantheon of the island’s private dynasty, where the cenotaphs of James II and James III of Mallorca are located.\n\n### In addition, the wrought iron baldachin stands out. Also the **ceramic decorations of the walls**. They show the coats of arms of the Mallorcan bishops, all of which are the work of **Gaudí**.\n\n### Currently the most famous attraction of the Cathedral of Palma de Mallorca is the intervention of **Miquel Barcelò** between 2001 and 2006 in the **Chapel of El Santísimo**. \n\n### There the artist made a large ceramic altarpiece. In it he reinterprets the miracle of the loaves and fishes. His particular language and the combination of his painting and ceramic skills stand out.\n"},{"type":"link","content":"https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jo6EsPC1mFo"},{"type":"video","content":"https://firebasestorage.googleapis.com/v0/b/freeguides-prod.appspot.com/o/assets%2Ftours%2Ft8wOsKDPUmQRNODmk0Dc%2FCatedral.mp4?alt=media&token=295acff2-547e-481b-85f6-cbcd344e6730"},{"type":"img","content":"https://firebasestorage.googleapis.com/v0/b/freeguides-prod.appspot.com/o/assets%2Ftours%2Ft8wOsKDPUmQRNODmk0Dc%2FIMG_6324.JPG?alt=media&token=febd2c6e-9acf-4016-82cb-e1dd1e78f747"},{"type":"img","content":"https://firebasestorage.googleapis.com/v0/b/freeguides-prod.appspot.com/o/assets%2Ftours%2Ft8wOsKDPUmQRNODmk0Dc%2FIMG_6325.JPG?alt=media&token=bb988117-0f8d-437e-9ea2-64e97d99a33f"},{"type":"img","content":"https://firebasestorage.googleapis.com/v0/b/freeguides-prod.appspot.com/o/assets%2Ftours%2Ft8wOsKDPUmQRNODmk0Dc%2FIMG_6326.JPG?alt=media&token=441eebca-863b-446a-be8e-1588330a5c29"},{"type":"img","content":"https://firebasestorage.googleapis.com/v0/b/freeguides-prod.appspot.com/o/assets%2Ftours%2Ft8wOsKDPUmQRNODmk0Dc%2FIMG_6338.JPG?alt=media&token=a4660de7-7af7-4c01-b598-c9fce3f75776"},{"type":"img","content":"https://firebasestorage.googleapis.com/v0/b/freeguides-prod.appspot.com/o/assets%2Ftours%2Ft8wOsKDPUmQRNODmk0Dc%2FIMG_6345.JPG?alt=media&token=d928ea83-331a-4e19-a535-5768ef8bcfe0"},{"type":"img","content":"https://firebasestorage.googleapis.com/v0/b/freeguides-prod.appspot.com/o/assets%2Ftours%2Ft8wOsKDPUmQRNODmk0Dc%2FIMG_6348.JPG?alt=media&token=6c564fe2-9c6d-4fd5-9bea-abcb5de34ef7"},{"type":"audio","content":"https://firebasestorage.googleapis.com/v0/b/freeguides-prod.appspot.com/o/assets%2Ftours%2Ft8wOsKDPUmQRNODmk0Dc%2FCat.m4a?alt=media&token=767ee4b7-228e-44ad-aa02-e25a209afac0"},{"type":"img","content":"https://firebasestorage.googleapis.com/v0/b/freeguides-prod.appspot.com/o/assets%2Ftours%2Ft8wOsKDPUmQRNODmk0Dc%2FIMG_6383.JPG?alt=media&token=d0d112ce-f7bd-4dd3-834e-50a022fe1224"},{"type":"audio","content":"https://firebasestorage.googleapis.com/v0/b/freeguides-prod.appspot.com/o/assets%2Ftours%2Ft8wOsKDPUmQRNODmk0Dc%2FCET.m4a?alt=media&token=6acad08b-6bd4-4cdd-821d-8553e91b2cd3"}]},{"address":"Fornet de la Soca, Plaça de Weyler, Palma, Spain","location":{"longitudeDelta":0.0421,"latitudeDelta":0.0922,"latitude":39.5713889,"longitude":2.65},"media":[{"type":"text","content":"# **El Fornet de la Soca Palma**\n## Try Mallorca's most traditional pastries\n \n### Once-forgotten Mallorcan recipes are brought back to life at this artisan bakery in one emblematic buildings in Palma.
