It is one of the most infamous prisons in Vietnam's history. I bet you didn't know that this prison was originally built by the French colonialists in the late 1800s, and it was called Maison Centrale at that time. It served as a prison for political prisoners, revolutionaries, and even ordinary criminals.\n\nAs we enter the prison, you will see the guillotine that was used to execute Vietnamese revolutionaries during the French colonial period. It's a grim reminder of the cruelty and oppression that was affected upon the Vietnamese people.\n\nAs we move through the prison, you'll see the cramped and dark cells where prisoners were kept in inhumane conditions. You'll also see exhibits that highlight the struggles of the Vietnamese revolutionaries who were imprisoned here.\n\nHoa Lo Prison was also used by the North Vietnamese government during the Vietnam War to hold American prisoners of war. You'll see displays and artifacts that provide insight into the experiences of these prisoners of war, including the infamous \"Hanoi Hilton\" section of the prison.\n\nIf you're interested in history, Hoa Lo Prison is a must-see attraction in Hanoi. The entrance fee is around 30,000 VND, and I suggest wearing comfortable shoes as we'll be walking around the prison for about an hour.\n\nA tip I have for you is to bring a camera and take some photos to remember your visit. Also, be respectful of the exhibits and the solemnity of the prison, as this is a place of great historical significance for the Vietnamese people."},{"type":"img","content":"https://firebasestorage.googleapis.com/v0/b/freeguides-prod.appspot.com/o/assets%2Ftours%2FuiiZEWvyaQBQShw2QpYm%2F390782d1c82f8e4f9bfeb66eaaa1c7cb.jpg?alt=media&token=5d640889-59ec-4969-935a-113527864d66"}]},{"address":"Train Street","location":{"longitudeDelta":0.18501439196141306,"latitudeDelta":0.09219986310369421,"latitude":21.030782656105675,"longitude":105.84482855},"media":[{"type":"audio","content":"https://firebasestorage.googleapis.com/v0/b/freeguides-prod.appspot.com/o/assets%2Ftours%2FuiiZEWvyaQBQShw2QpYm%2F0403%20(1).mp3?alt=media&token=8086fe0a-bfaf-4240-8216-5579b07dbada"},{"type":"img","content":"https://firebasestorage.googleapis.com/v0/b/freeguides-prod.appspot.com/o/assets%2Ftours%2FuiiZEWvyaQBQShw2QpYm%2Fpho-duong-tau1-1661098529545.webp?alt=media&token=81147c6f-6c94-4c7a-99cb-78a208e7507b"},{"type":"img","content":"https://firebasestorage.googleapis.com/v0/b/freeguides-prod.appspot.com/o/assets%2Ftours%2FuiiZEWvyaQBQShw2QpYm%2Fquynhfawn-1569490208454487655540.webp?alt=media&token=dd58d75d-23df-4b6f-b390-2354440381d6"},{"type":"text","content":"Next, we invite you to visit Hanoi's Chinatown. As many years as Hanoi Railway Station has existed, so many years the railway lines running around the city quietly mingle with the rhythm of life here. People call it with the simple name \"railway hamlet\". Like any hamlet, the railway village has all the tones of life, with all the old and new joys that are unmistakable."},{"type":"text","content":"There is a very famous work by the writer Thach Lam - Two Children talked about the life of the people around this train line. Along the houses or cute little cafes close to both sides of the track, the train schedule is posted for people and tourists to know. Just a glance will see, well, at 21:30, there is a train passing, they will be mentally prepared to \"avoid\" the train to ensure safety. The train runs at night and early in the morning, so during the day, this place is deserted."},{"type":"text","content":"I recommend that you linger for a while to feel the tones of life here. Did you know that Hoan Kiem Lake means \"Lake of the Returned Sword\" in Vietnamese? Legend has it that in the 15th century, Emperor Le Loi was given a magical sword by the Dragon King to help him defeat the Chinese invaders. After the war, the emperor was boating on the lake when a giant turtle appeared and took the sword back to the depths of the lake, where it remains to this day.\n\nAs you walk around the lake, you'll see locals practicing tai chi, playing badminton, or simply enjoying the peaceful surroundings. There's no admission fee to visit the lake, and it's open to the public from early morning until late at night.\n\nOne of the most striking features of the lake is the red bridge leading to the small island in the middle of the water, where you'll find the Ngoc Son Temple. Inside, you can admire the intricate wood carvings and the preserved remains of a giant turtle, believed to be one of the descendants of the mythical creature that took the emperor's sword.\n\nIf you're planning on taking pictures, I recommend coming early in the morning to avoid the crowds and get the best light. And if you're feeling adventurous, why not try some of the local street food stalls nearby? I personally recommend the bun cha or pho cuon, two Hanoi specialties that are sure to satisfy your taste.\n\nAs you leave Hoan Kiem Lake, take a moment to appreciate the historical and cultural significance of this site, and the role it has played in shaping the identity of the Vietnamese people."}]},{"address":"Kem Tràng Tiền","location":{"longitudeDelta":0.18347772757635147,"latitudeDelta":0.09219986310369421,"latitude":21.024941556103816,"longitude":105.854745},"media":[{"type":"audio","content":"https://firebasestorage.googleapis.com/v0/b/freeguides-prod.appspot.com/o/assets%2Ftours%2FuiiZEWvyaQBQShw2QpYm%2F0403%20(3).mp3?alt=media&token=4341221f-badf-4d64-bf99-f5ded2479583"},{"type":"img","content":"https://firebasestorage.googleapis.com/v0/b/freeguides-prod.appspot.com/o/assets%2Ftours%2FuiiZEWvyaQBQShw2QpYm%2F102556014_593326287978336_8693401388658643506_n.jpg?alt=media&token=c17bac1d-b32c-4749-9def-8fba2792d9a5"},{"type":"img","content":"https://firebasestorage.googleapis.com/v0/b/freeguides-prod.appspot.com/o/assets%2Ftours%2FuiiZEWvyaQBQShw2QpYm%2Fphoto-1-16738589443702121385324.png?alt=media&token=0cb4a8cc-b374-4699-8dc6-47742adcbaed"},{"type":"img","content":"https://firebasestorage.googleapis.com/v0/b/freeguides-prod.appspot.com/o/assets%2Ftours%2FuiiZEWvyaQBQShw2QpYm%2Fwhereisdaegu1483430802-1590136-7407-8964-1590136297-1590567231472827956502.webp?alt=media&token=eec98e78-fab6-4442-bd07-ffd16f7b289b"},{"type":"text","content":"Next, we come to Trang Tien Ice Cream Shop, one of the oldest and most iconic ice cream parlors in Hanoi, Vietnam! Believe it or not, this place has been serving delicious ice cream to locals and visitors alike since the early 1950s, making it a true Hanoi establishment.\n\nOnce inside, you'll be greeted by the smell of freshly made waffles and the charming, vintage decor that will take you back in time. Take a moment to admire the old-fashioned ice cream carts and the colorful posters hanging on the walls.\n\nNow, let me tell you a little bit about ice cream. Trang Tien ice cream parlor is known for its unique flavors that reflect Vietnamese culture and traditions. From coconuts, pandan leaves and chickpeas to durians, taro and even beer, there's always something for everyone to try. And the best part? The prices are very affordable, so you can enjoy without breaking the bank.\n\nOne sightseeing tip I have for you is to try ice cream in a cup instead of an ice cream cone. This way, you'll be able to enjoy more flavors and avoid any possible mess. Also, be prepared for long queues during rush hour, especially in summer when people are looking for a refreshing snack.\n\nIn short, Trang Tien Ice Cream Shop is more than just a place to enjoy ice cream, it's a cultural experience that you won't want to miss during your visit to Hanoi. So go ahead, try a spoon (or two) of something new and enjoy the sweet taste of history."}]}]
