The city was founded by Mycenaeans (from 1600 b.c.) and became one of the most important ports of that time.\nIn the years of Roman Empire, Nauplia was conquered by Rome, as the whole Greece, but while the Roman Empire collapsed in the 5th century A.D., Greece remained under the control of the Romans of the East (called Byzantine), until 13th century. This is due to the splitting of the Empire, which happened in the 4th century, after the death of the emperor Theodosius.\nAfter the Byzantine empire disappeared, it was under the control of different local states, until it was sold to the Republic of Venice in the 14th century.\nIn the 1540 the Ottomans conquered Nauplio, but the Venetians of Francesco Morosini reconquered Nafplio with the Peloponnese war.\nIn the 18th century, Ottomans entered again in Nafplio, which became Greek again in the Greek independence war."},{"metadata":{"width":1000,"height":995},"type":"img","version":1,"content":"https://firebasestorage.googleapis.com/v0/b/freeguides-prod.appspot.com/o/assets%2Ftours%2FBTbp4skeZaVtVGNiiEZe%2Fstop_0_0.png?alt=media&token=86ab8c1a-c92e-44ff-87d9-ce229f2089f2"}]},{"address":"5 Emmanouil Blesi,Nafplio","location":{"longitudeDelta":0.0015385821461713078,"latitudeDelta":0.0015985282511863375,"latitude":37.566046530946764,"longitude":22.79680034145713},"media":[{"metadata":{"width":1000,"height":1332},"type":"img","version":1,"content":"https://firebasestorage.googleapis.com/v0/b/freeguides-prod.appspot.com/o/assets%2Ftours%2FBTbp4skeZaVtVGNiiEZe%2Fstop_1_0.png?alt=media&token=f08bfb32-cddb-4b09-9454-2504e933d0ac"},{"type":"text","content":"The city under the hill, it is splitted in the Old Nauplia, characterized by small masonry buildings, and the New Nauplia, which is the non-touristic part, where most of the inhabitants of the city live. On the top of the hill there are different bastions, the top is represented by the Palamidi Fortress. On these bastions it is possible to see the lions representing Venice, since they are the symbol of St. Mark. These bastions are characterized by a lot of voids, that probably were used to observe if the enemy was reaching Nafplio with boats, and now they represents nice points to take pictures of the city of Nauplia.\n\n"}]}]
