As well as being an important element of the San Francisco skyline, the Transamerica Pyramid was upon its completion in 1972 the eighth-tallest building in the world. For more than 40 years (from 1972 to 2017) the tallest skyscraper in San Francisco. A title it held till the construction of Salesforce Tower in the South of Market district.\n\nThe construction and design of the now famous landmark faced a great deal of opposition when it was first presented to the public. The opposition was so extreme that the building was often referred to as “Pereira’s Prick”. Though it was once wildly hated by most of the city, it is now considered one of the best examples of postmodern architecture in the United States.\n\nThe original proposal was for a 1,150-foot (350 m) building, which would have been the second-tallest building in the world. The proposal was rejected outright by the city planning commission, because it would have interfered with views of the San Francisco Bay from Nob Hill. The strange shape of the finished pyramid is largely due to restrictive zoning regulations that limited the square footage of the building."},{"metadata":{"width":576,"height":1024},"type":"video","content":"https://firebasestorage.googleapis.com/v0/b/freeguides-prod.appspot.com/o/assets%2Ftours%2FLsw7PPA1G9FeVoRmCZeG%2FSnaptik_6855089940989005062_nathan-wilde.mp4?alt=media&token=031c33fc-47e2-47d2-af1e-985c4054b3b6"}]},{"address":"Columbus Tower","location":{"longitudeDelta":0.14321712068773834,"latitudeDelta":0.09219986310369421,"latitude":37.79635846231641,"longitude":-122.40494075},"media":[{"type":"text","content":"# Columbus Tower"},{"metadata":{"width":564,"height":904},"type":"img","version":1,"content":"https://firebasestorage.googleapis.com/v0/b/freeguides-prod.appspot.com/o/assets%2Ftours%2FLsw7PPA1G9FeVoRmCZeG%2Ff64abb8e46f0b032c5d3bf906b758437.jpg?alt=media&token=da81d5a5-ec48-4162-bcfb-2a0f9807ac61"},{"type":"text","content":"Columbus Tower, also known as the Sentinel Building, is a mixed-use building in San Francisco, California, completed in 1907. Founded in the 1950s by poet Lawrence Ferlinghetti, City Lights was most famous for publishing Howl by Allen Ginsberg (and undergoing an obscenity trial as a result). Today, City Lights still publishes some of its own books, with a particular focus on poetry, and runs a well-stocked bookstore.\n\n\nThere aren't many places to sit down and flip through books, aside from a few chairs in the upstairs poetry section, but you can still spend hours lost in the stacks here. The store stocks many new releases as well as some rare books. Decades after opening, City Lights remains at the forefront of promoting new authors and big ideas. There's a weekly reading series that hosts visiting authors, and skews toward political and world literature. There's also a \"Pedagogies of Resistance\" section in the store, which the staff developed in 2016. It has a rotating selection of about 200 books that reflect on our current political moment and revolutionary thinking."}]},{"address":"Molinari Delicatessen","location":{"longitudeDelta":0.14321712068773834,"latitudeDelta":0.09219986310369421,"latitude":37.798556162317375,"longitude":-122.40782625000001},"media":[{"type":"text","content":"# Molinari Delicatessen"},{"metadata":{"width":1000,"height":667},"type":"img","version":1,"content":"https://firebasestorage.googleapis.com/v0/b/freeguides-prod.appspot.com/o/assets%2Ftours%2FLsw7PPA1G9FeVoRmCZeG%2Fmolinari-delicatessen-sf.jpg?alt=media&token=6492586d-e899-4507-b205-02a526dbeae1"},{"metadata":{"width":640,"height":640},"type":"img","version":1,"content":"https://firebasestorage.googleapis.com/v0/b/freeguides-prod.appspot.com/o/assets%2Ftours%2FLsw7PPA1G9FeVoRmCZeG%2F118032923_3509316699099941_1035887004740802617_n.jpg?alt=media&token=e73d4652-b3e6-4967-ae50-cfc5196a46fc"},{"type":"text","content":"Recharge your energy by stopping at Molinari Delicatessen.
