Constructed in the 1860s, shortly after the settlement of Darwin (then Palmerston), it became the first official wharf in the young frontier town.\n\nInitially, Fort Hill Wharf served as a vital link, facilitating the offloading of supplies and goods that fueled Darwin's early growth. Over the years, it witnessed the arrival of settlers, the export of resources, and the bustling trade that shaped the city's identity.\n\nThough no longer the primary cargo handling facility, Fort Hill Wharf remains a significant landmark in Darwin’s maritime identity.\n\n"}]},{"address":"Darwin Waterfront Precinct","placeId":"ChIJCUMSuwSRwCwRTDSmAixe02M","location":{"longitudeDelta":0.1598130960464033,"latitudeDelta":0.09219986310369421,"latitude":-12.467414098400386,"longitude":130.84671610837592},"media":[{"type":"text","content":"Our next stop is Darwin Waterfront, a dynamic hub of entertainment, dining, and relaxation. Here, you'll find a diverse array of restaurants offering everything from fresh seafood to international cuisine. Take a stroll along the promenade, where the air is filled with the tantalising aroma of spices and exotic flavours. Or perhaps you'd prefer to unwind with a cold drink at one of the waterfront bars. If you're seeking a more active adventure, try the wave pool, aqua park or just enjoy a relaxing swim in the warm tropical waters.\n\nAs we continue our journey, we arrive at Stokes Hill Wharf, another iconic landmark in Darwin's waterfront landscape. Originally built in the late 1800s, Stokes Hill Wharf has witnessed the comings and goings of ships from far-flung corners of the globe. Today, it's a popular destination for visitors and locals alike, offering a variety of attractions and activities.\n"}]},{"address":"2 Stokes Hill Rd","placeId":"ChIJhQ9SGB2RwCwRaEjTlT65AEg","location":{"longitudeDelta":0.1598130960464033,"latitudeDelta":0.09219986310369421,"latitude":-12.470431122407298,"longitude":130.84863657003058},"media":[{"type":"text","content":"At Stokes Hill Wharf, you can immerse yourself in the rich history of the region at the Royal Flying Doctor Service Tourist Facility. Two amazing stories are relayed here through interactive exhibits and artifacts. One is a tribute to the Royal Flying Doctor Service, one of Australia's most iconic and vital organisations, and the other commemorates the bombing of Darwin during World War II, a pivotal moment that forever changed the course of the city's history.\n\nFrom here, you can also embark on a harbour cruise, fishing charter, or something a bit more adventurous. \n\nA little further along the wharf, you'll find a cluster of restaurants and bars. Here, you can sit down and relax, take in the view, and bask in the refreshing breeze. Keep an eye on the water to catch a glimpse of batfish, mullet, barramundi, and if you're lucky, an occasional pod of dolphins gracefully swimming by. \n\nThis is where our tour ends. If you have time I recommend staying for sunset to catch one of Darwin’s famous sunsets from this historic location. So sit back, soak up the sights and sounds and let the spirity of Darwin capture your heart. \n"}]}]
