When you get off the bus, you will see a bridge in front of you and an open space to the right. We will cross the bridge later during the experience, but now, make your way straight under the bridge where you will find the beginning of a **Buļļu river promenade**. It is easy to get on the bus along main *Brivības street*, near *The Central train station*, *Old Town* as well as *National library*. \n\nThe journey from the centre will take **30- 40 minutes** and cost **1.15 EUR** for a single ride (check discount combination tickets). \n\n!!! It is not possible to buy tickets in the bus anymore, so you should buy an e-card with rides or e-tickets in a smartphone application beforehand. We will need 2 or4 rides, depending on how far you go. This walking/cycling path is a nice place for a slow stroll, specially during short Latvian summers. \n\nWhat you are seeing standing on the path, is ***Buļļu river*** - a natural canal connecting two of major Latvian rivers Daugava and Lielupe, and ***Daugavgrīva's district*** - the former Soviet military base town where Soviet military forces were stationed from after World War II to 1994. This period is when most of apartment buildings were built. Nevertheless, the island of Buļļi that Daugavgrīva stands on has some places with more history. One of them is *Daugavgrīva's fortress*, that we will visit a bit later. \nThe promenade goes along Buļļu river for several kilometres, and if you feel like it, you are welcome to stroll all along. Nevertheless, as this experience contains a lot of places and a lot of walking, I suggest you walk until you reach ***a small wooden church*** on the other side of the road from the promenade. \n\n "},{"type":"text","content":"**Nice to know* - most of the places (not 100 % unfortunately) in this experiance are possible for travellers with disabilities (with assistance). It is one of the oldest buildings in Bolderaja/Daugavgriva district. \n\nIt was built in 1873 in Neo-gothic style, which was popular amongst Riga's Baltic German community. Now it stands out as one of the very few wooden churches still operating in Latvia. \n\nThe congregation is rather active, especially in cultural life of the community. There are frequent concerts and other events at the church opened for anyone.
