Like most Greek temples, the Parthenon also served as the city treasury.\nUnder the sacred rock of the Acropolis, visit the ancient Theater of Dionysos and the Odeion of Herodes Atticus, where every summer concerts are held. You'll be inspired by the way ancient Greeks perceived art.\nIf you visit Athens during peak season (mid-June to mid-September) means the city will be packed with tourists. If you are hoping for pleasant weather and quieter streets, visit the city from April to mid-June or mid-September until the end of October. If your budget is low, visit between November to March, when Athens has autumn and winter.\nIf you wish to avoid large crowds, especially in Athens during the peak season, the best time to visit the Acropolis would be in the early morning or late evening. You'll find the Acropolis busiest in the late morning and noon, between 11 am and 1 pm.\nDuring the summer months (April-October), Acropolis is open daily from 8 am to 8 pm, with the last entry being at 7:30 pm. Winter (November to March) is available from 8 am to 5 pm, with the last entry at 4:30 pm.\nThe Acropolis is closed during Christmas (25,26/12), New Year's Day (1/1), March 25, May 1, and Easter Day (Orthodox)."},{"type":"img","content":"https://firebasestorage.googleapis.com/v0/b/freeguides-prod.appspot.com/o/assets%2Ftours%2F1Z9jEw8deC7iv9Hc6Ysr%2FACROPOLI3.jpg?alt=media&token=fe31d056-ccfe-4555-b5fa-4c5705f88fb8"},{"type":"img","content":"https://firebasestorage.googleapis.com/v0/b/freeguides-prod.appspot.com/o/assets%2Ftours%2F1Z9jEw8deC7iv9Hc6Ysr%2Fakropoli.jpg?alt=media&token=c474f65d-cdb5-42bf-9b52-62d54f806601"},{"type":"img","content":"https://firebasestorage.googleapis.com/v0/b/freeguides-prod.appspot.com/o/assets%2Ftours%2F1Z9jEw8deC7iv9Hc6Ysr%2Fakropoli1.jpg?alt=media&token=9444ac34-c9a1-4385-ae83-fa56ac68c4e6"},{"type":"img","content":"https://firebasestorage.googleapis.com/v0/b/freeguides-prod.appspot.com/o/assets%2Ftours%2F1Z9jEw8deC7iv9Hc6Ysr%2Fakropoli2.jpg?alt=media&token=99c6f9fb-9cad-427c-80ca-ec95da7a1b5b"},{"type":"img","content":"https://firebasestorage.googleapis.com/v0/b/freeguides-prod.appspot.com/o/assets%2Ftours%2F1Z9jEw8deC7iv9Hc6Ysr%2Firodion2.jpg?alt=media&token=4432ff72-6329-4b5b-9b15-5c42bbccf26c"}]},{"address":"Acropolis Museum","location":{"longitudeDelta":0.10234184804510059,"latitudeDelta":0.09219986310369421,"latitude":37.96833096239294,"longitude":23.728982200000022},"media":[{"type":"text","content":"The Acropolis Museum is a must-see when visiting Athens and a truly evocative experience. There are cafes and taverns along the white stairs that climb uphill to the picturesque area of Anafiotika.\nWhen Athens was under Ottoman rule, Plaka was known as the \"Turkish quarter of Athens,\" with many historical buildings dating back to this period, such as the Madrasa Islamic school on Pelopida street. In 1884 a large part of Plaka burned down due to a fire.\nGetting to Plaka is relatively easy. If you are taking the metro, go to Syntagma Metro station and walk Voulis street straight ahead, and you will reach Kydathinaion. Another way to get to Plaka is to stop at Monastiraki Station, where Adrianou street starts from the flea market. Hi, I'm Maria, a Greek journalist living in Athens. I love to travel around the world and "taste" the history and culture of places. But most of all, I know my country inside out, and I got tips for the best places to go now, from Athens to the islands or the mainland.
