But even now, the remains of the observatory serve as a reminder of the days gone by.\n\nIf you're up for a bit of a challenge, I recommend taking a closer look at the brass plaque located near the top of the hill. It's not only an architectural marvel, but it's also a space of creativity and inspiration. The space has a rich history, with the sandstone walls dating back to the late 1800s, but it wasn't until 2015 that The Cutaway was transformed into what it is today. The space is now home to exhibitions, performances, and even an indoor forest, which is truly a sight to see. The Cutaway is a space that you can interact with, explore, and even bring out your inner child as you unleash your creativity. There are various installations and exhibitions that are regularly changed, so there is always something new to look forward to. And of course, while you're here, don't forget to take in the fantastic architectural features, including the natural lighting and sound, which are ingeniously engineered for maximum impact.\n\nAs a lover of photography, I can't help but recommend capturing some shots while you're here, as there are fantastic angles that will make for Instagram-worthy photos. Did you know that this Garden was gifted to Sydney by Guangzhou as a symbol of the thriving friendship between the two cities? As with all friendships, it needs to be nurtured and taken care of, which is why we’re here today.\n\nTake a moment to look around at the lush greenery and tranquil water features. As the famous Chinese saying goes, \"If you want happiness for an hour, take a nap. If you want happiness for a day, go fishing. If you want happiness for a year, inherit a fortune. If you want happiness for a lifetime, help somebody.\" And that’s exactly what we’ll be doing today – finding happiness in sharing this beautiful Garden and learning from each other’s cultures.\n\nAs you explore the Garden, keep your eyes peeled for the hidden gems. Did you know that the circular entrance symbolizes heaven, while the square Garden represents earth? Even the direction the water flows has a symbolic meaning. You'll notice that no square, hard angles are present in the Garden’s design, which is to create a peaceful and harmonious atmosphere.\n\nBut enough about the design, let’s talk about the people who make this Garden great. Being a local guide, I’m lucky enough to have met and worked with some of the staff here. Believe it or not, this Garden relies heavily on volunteer work! It truly is a community effort to maintain this peaceful oasis in the middle of the city.\n\nSo let's take a moment to appreciate the hard work that goes into maintaining the Garden and its cultural significance. Are you ready to explore one of the most exciting and culturally-rich neighborhoods in the city? As [famous person] once said, \"Chinatown is like a world within a world\". Let's dive in and discover all it has to offer.\n\nDid you know that Chinatown in Sydney is one of the oldest and largest Chinese enclaves in the western world? It's also home to some of the best Asian cuisine in the city. As a culinary enthusiast myself, this is one of my favorite stops on the tour.\n\nAs we look around, you can see the unique blend of Chinese and Australian architecture, with red lanterns hanging above us and traditional Chinese signs lining the streets. In the nearby Paddy's Market, you'll find fresh produce, trinkets, and souvenirs to take home.\n\nOne of my favorite hidden gems in Chinatown is the laneways that run parallel to Dixon St. These narrow alleys are filled with street art, colorful murals, and small bars serving unique and delicious cocktails.\n\nNow, let me tell you a story about a historical event that took place right here in Chinatown. In the 1800s, due to the influx of Chinese immigrants to Australia during the gold rush, many Australians became fearful and hostile towards Chinese people. This led to the establishment of the notorious 'Chinese lottery', which involved rounding up Chinese immigrants and deporting them back to China. The lottery, which was held in the area we are standing in now, was a cruel and unjust practice. However, the Chinese community in Sydney remained resilient and today Chinatown stands as a testament to their strength and cultural richness.\n\nI could go on for hours about this wonderful neighborhood, but I welcome you to explore and discover more of it on your own. Take your time, grab a bite to eat, and immerse yourself in the sights and sounds of Chinatown. When you're ready, we'll move on to the next stop on our journey.\n\n"}]},{"address":"Paddy's Markets Haymarket","placeId":null,"location":{"longitudeDelta":0.1748724070200067,"latitudeDelta":0.09219986310369421,"latitude":-33.88014841066311,"longitude":151.20375475},"media":[{"type":"img","content":"https://firebasestorage.googleapis.com/v0/b/freeguides-prod.appspot.com/o/assets%2Ftours%2F0HtPSZlTEsZxc9COx1aE%2Fd794fce730c22030477cbdf9f87522e6.jpeg?alt=media&token=67d4237e-0e3b-4706-bb53-a8bd67b4db7c"},{"type":"img","content":"https://firebasestorage.googleapis.com/v0/b/freeguides-prod.appspot.com/o/assets%2Ftours%2F0HtPSZlTEsZxc9COx1aE%2Fmarket-city-01-1920x1080.jpg?alt=media&token=6242cb73-5e0b-4812-941a-2bc75cd32f78"},{"type":"text","content":"Welcome to Paddy's Markets Haymarket! As your local guide for today, I'm excited to show you around this bustling market. Did you know that Paddy's Markets has been a staple in Sydney since the late 1800s? It's been a hub for fresh produce, unique souvenirs, and fashion for both locals and tourists alike.\n\nAs the famous designer Yves Saint Laurent once said, \"Fashions fade, style is eternal.\" You'll definitely find some stylish pieces here, but what makes Paddy's Markets unique compared to other markets is its focus on fresh food. As we walk around, you'll see an array of colorful fruits and veggies, succulent meats, and aromatic spices. Trust me; your senses are in for a treat!\n\nI have a personal story to share with you about this stop. When I was growing up, my family and I would often come here on the weekends to buy fresh produce for the week ahead. It was always a fun, lively experience, and we would end up leaving with not only fruits and veggies but also a few new trinkets and souvenirs. So, when you're exploring around here, keep an eye out for unique items that might catch your eye.\n\nOne tip I have for you is to haggle with the vendors! That's where you'll find the real value. And if you're looking for that extra value, see if you can find the hidden discount gems that some vendors may offer.\n\nThere's so much to see and experience in this market, take your time, and enjoy yourself. And once you're ready, let's move on to our next stop, where we'll encounter some seafood straight from the waterfront.\n\n"}]}]
