The heart of the area will be the intersection of Wells Street and North Avenue, while at the southeast corner, stretching from this intersection, one will find a beautiful historic quarter (late 1800s to early early 1900s) 1900s) along three streets: Dearborn, State and Astor.\n\nWells Street is home to a string of reliable restaurants and bars, but most here are more budget-friendly, with prices lower on average than you'll find in the River North or along the Magnificent Mile. NOOKIES (Monday-Saturday: 6:30am - 10pm; Sunday: 6:30am - 9pm) is a good place for brunch; always full of mostly locals and with extremely friendly staff. They have a great range of breakfast, lunch, and dinner options, and because servings are so extensive, boxes of leftovers are also available. As the weather warms up, there's even limited outdoor seating available. Another local favorite, the OLD TOWN PUB (Sunday-Friday: 12 p.m.–2 a.m.; Saturday: 12 p.m.–3 a.m.) has good prices, better food/drinks Expectations and a little bit of charm on the inside, but if you're looking for an Irish pub (Who's not in Chicago?), don't miss the perfectly located DECLAN'S which purports to be a full-fledged bar of the University of Notre Dame.\n\nTip:\nOn the 2nd weekend of June, the Old Town Art Fair and the Wells Street Art Festival become local attractions, showcasing excellent work by local artists ."},{"content":"https://firebasestorage.googleapis.com/v0/b/freeguides-prod.appspot.com/o/assets%2Ftours%2FqQzRBcycLzC6bBfgj81C%2FSnaptik_6996742622886759685_carla-bank.mp4?alt=media&token=8993eecd-9bd2-4ef7-9c85-ccdcdb62daff","type":"video","metadata":{"width":576,"height":1024}}],"location":{"longitude":-87.63427260000002,"latitudeDelta":0.09219986310369421,"longitudeDelta":0.14321712068773834,"latitude":41.898269514247716},"address":"North Wells Street"},{"location":{"latitude":41.909426314253295,"longitudeDelta":0.14321712068773834,"latitudeDelta":0.09219986310369421,"longitude":-87.63105169999999},"media":[{"content":"# West Burton Place","type":"text"},{"content":"https://firebasestorage.googleapis.com/v0/b/freeguides-prod.appspot.com/o/assets%2Ftours%2FqQzRBcycLzC6bBfgj81C%2FWhat-to-do-in-Old-Town-Chicago-14-600x800.jpg?alt=media&token=c13fdfaf-f956-4716-8f0c-1613198f0f97","metadata":{"height":798,"width":547},"version":1,"type":"img"},{"content":"The West Burton Place Historic District is a residential historic district located at 143-161 W. Burton Place in the Near North Side neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois. The district, which includes twelve main houses and five carriage houses, was developed in the late 19th century but renovated into an artists' colony in the 1920s and 1930s. Artist Edgar Miller and businessman Sol Kogen began the district's redevelopment by redesigning and opening Carl Street Studios in 1927; at the time, Burton Place was known as Carl Street. Kogen and Miller, as well as other Chicago artists, gradually converted other homes on the street into artists' studios and residences. While the homes started off as Italianate or Queen Anne structures that had become dilapidated by the 1930s, their redesigns featured then-modern styles such as Art Deco and Art Moderne; five of the street's homes retain their original designs, providing architectural contrast. \n\nThe district was added to the National Register of Historic Places on December 6, 2007.The cul-de-sac was later designated a Historic District by the City of Chicago after one of the buildings was threatened by demolition. The landmarking effort was led by author Keith Stolte, attorney and Chicago Art Deco Society Vice President Amy Keller, and Edgar Miller Legacy founder and Executive Director Zac Bleicher.","type":"text"},{"metadata":{"width":576,"height":1024},"content":"https://firebasestorage.googleapis.com/v0/b/freeguides-prod.appspot.com/o/assets%2Ftours%2FqQzRBcycLzC6bBfgj81C%2FSnaptik_6977017966621625606_cori-hanna-travel-tips.mp4?alt=media&token=1b5a0c2f-f8b5-46e0-b00d-a75a7ffdbb30","type":"video"}],"address":"West Burton Place"},{"location":{"latitude":41.91168786425446,"longitude":-87.631788,"latitudeDelta":0.09219986310369421,"longitudeDelta":0.14321712068773834},"media":[{"content":"# Chicago History Museum","type":"text"},{"type":"link","content":"https://www.chicagohistory.org/"},{"content":"https://firebasestorage.googleapis.com/v0/b/freeguides-prod.appspot.com/o/assets%2Ftours%2FqQzRBcycLzC6bBfgj81C%2FChicago_History.jpg?alt=media&token=fe1fd2a3-433e-4828-a42b-2148afb420b6","version":1,"type":"img","metadata":{"height":750,"width":1000}},{"type":"text","content":"I love this museum that focuses on sharing the history of Chicago. Some parts contain a little bit of audience-participation improvisation; in fact, the third and final act (going around 10:30pm) is just that and no ticket is necessary to attend as the cast tries out new comedy material. Seats are otherwise considered first-come, first-served, so be sure to get in 20-30mins prior if you want the full show, or spend some extra to reserve seats on the rail.\n\nNote that besides the Second City Theater, the complex also houses the Black Orchid Supper Club, a Sony Multiplex, as well as restaurants and a Starbucks. The theater's mainstage entrance features stone arches with faces originally from the Adler and Sullivan-designed Garrick Theater.\n\nTip:\nTo visit one of Chicago's favorite dive spots, head to the OLD TOWN ALE HOUSE (Mon-Fri: 3pm–4am; Sat: 12pm–5am; Sun: 12pm–4am) known mainly for its proximity to Second City and the cast's inclination to hang out there after shows. The interior resembles a pub from decades past and is decorated with random paintings. It's packed on weekends, and loud, but that's what makes it so fun.\n\nOpening Hours:\nMon-Thu: 10am-9pm; Fri: 10am-12am; Sat: 11am-12am; Sun: 11am-8pm"},{"type":"audio","content":"https://firebasestorage.googleapis.com/v0/b/freeguides-prod.appspot.com/o/assets%2Ftours%2FqQzRBcycLzC6bBfgj81C%2FttsMP3.com_VoiceText_2022-6-14_9_49_23.mp3?alt=media&token=6d503d87-c422-4c22-8934-5640ae99a8d7"}],"location":{"longitude":-87.63518855000002,"latitudeDelta":0.09219986310369421,"longitudeDelta":0.14321712068773834,"latitude":41.91148286425435},"address":"The Second City"},{"address":"Green City Market Lincoln Park","media":[{"type":"text","content":"# Green City Market "},{"type":"link","content":"https://www.greencitymarket.org/"},{"type":"img","metadata":{"height":375,"width":500},"content":"https://firebasestorage.googleapis.com/v0/b/freeguides-prod.appspot.com/o/assets%2Ftours%2FqQzRBcycLzC6bBfgj81C%2Fp1020328.jpg?alt=media&token=81ef9bbe-7c6f-4687-bef7-33f6da108bcf","version":1},{"type":"text","content":"Yes, this is actually in Lincoln Park, not Old Town, but it is so close to Old Town that I wanted to include it.
