As a local, I must say that this is one of my favourite spots in Killarney. Are you ready to learn about the rich history of this castle?\n\nDid you know that Ross Castle was built in the late 15th century by the O'Donoghue Clan? It took them over 40 years to build it with ancient techniques and materials!\n\nAs a famous quote goes, “Ross Castle is not just a building; it’s a connection to our past.” And it's true! Standing in its footsteps, you can't help but feel connected to the rich history of Killarney.\n\nSpeaking of history, let me tell you an interesting anecdote. In 1653, the castle was captured by Cromwell's forces after a three-day siege. Now, that's a tale of resilience!\n\nNow, look around and take it all in. Notice the stone walls and the surrounding water from Lough Leane. It's so picturesque! You can even take a boat ride to see the castle from a different angle - it's well worth it.\n\nBut there's even more beauty to be found here. Did you know that the castle is surrounded by a National Park with stunning natural landscapes? Take some time to explore and appreciate the beauty of the surrounding area - trust me, you won't regret it.\n\nIf you want to explore more, don't worry, we have more exciting stops ahead. But if you're not done here yet, take your time - absorb everything that Ross Castle has to offer. Let me know when you're ready to move on to our next stop.\n\n"},{"type":"audio","content":"https://firebasestorage.googleapis.com/v0/b/freeguides-prod.appspot.com/o/assets%2Ftours%2FILqgeriivZo3lNiX54Rq%2F0416.MP3?alt=media&token=16dbcde0-1515-42f3-84e5-8e97c0f51851"}]},{"address":"Muckross Abbey","location":{"longitudeDelta":0.1462904494578615,"latitudeDelta":0.09219986310369421,"latitude":52.026045570344934,"longitude":-9.494666499999997},"media":[{"type":"text","content":"# Muckross Abbey"},{"type":"img","content":"https://firebasestorage.googleapis.com/v0/b/freeguides-prod.appspot.com/o/assets%2Ftours%2FILqgeriivZo3lNiX54Rq%2FMuckross_Abbey_Friary_2014.jpg?alt=media&token=05d206c6-d72f-4c51-8d39-5743e36d848a"},{"type":"img","content":"https://firebasestorage.googleapis.com/v0/b/freeguides-prod.appspot.com/o/assets%2Ftours%2FILqgeriivZo3lNiX54Rq%2Fmuckross-abbey-3-scaled.webp?alt=media&token=d32916b7-382f-4491-8cf8-b7c8aeb04f67"},{"type":"img","content":"https://firebasestorage.googleapis.com/v0/b/freeguides-prod.appspot.com/o/assets%2Ftours%2FILqgeriivZo3lNiX54Rq%2FMuckross-abbey-killarney.jpg?alt=media&token=faf379ab-a422-4a98-ac06-2f963d51f9f6"},{"type":"text","content":"Our next stop is Muckross Abbey, one of the most fascinating and historic sites in all of Killarney. Have you ever wondered what it's like to stand in the footsteps of history? Well, you're about to find out!\n\nAs we approach the abbey, let me tell you a surprising fact - this incredible structure was built way back in the 15th century! That means it's been standing here, in all its grandeur, for over 600 years.\n\nAs you look around, take in the stunning architecture of this Gothic-style building. The rough stone walls, the intricate carvings, and the imposing tower are all testaments to the incredible craftsmanship of the monks that lived and worked here.\n\nAs a local guide, I have a personal connection to this site. My great-great-great-grandfather was a monk in this very abbey, and his stories of life here have been passed down through my family for generations. It's a truly special feeling to be able to share this piece of history with visitors like you.\n\nAs famous writer James Joyce once said, \"the past is consumed in the present and the present is lived through in the future.\" And that's exactly what we're doing here - experiencing the past in the present, so we can carry it with us into the future.\n\nTake a moment to really soak it all in. Feel the rough texture of the stone walls, smell the earthy scent of the surrounding woods, and hear the faint whispers of the monks that once walked these halls.\n\nAnd when you're ready, we'll move on to the next stop on our journey. But don't worry, you'll always carry a piece of Muckross Abbey with you.\n\n"},{"type":"audio","content":"https://firebasestorage.googleapis.com/v0/b/freeguides-prod.appspot.com/o/assets%2Ftours%2FILqgeriivZo3lNiX54Rq%2F0416%20(1).MP3?alt=media&token=82143d18-f28f-426c-af5a-9c4981232413"}]},{"address":"Killarney National Park","location":{"longitudeDelta":0.1462904494578615,"latitudeDelta":0.09219986310369421,"latitude":52.02099000000002,"longitude":-9.50664},"media":[{"type":"text","content":"# Killarney National Park"},{"type":"img","content":"https://firebasestorage.googleapis.com/v0/b/freeguides-prod.appspot.com/o/assets%2Ftours%2FILqgeriivZo3lNiX54Rq%2FKillarney%20National%20Park%20muckross%20bridge.jpg?alt=media&token=89ca808c-e886-447c-a81a-b48c50d07335"},{"type":"img","content":"https://firebasestorage.googleapis.com/v0/b/freeguides-prod.appspot.com/o/assets%2Ftours%2FILqgeriivZo3lNiX54Rq%2Fheader-eagles-nest-lakes-of-killarney-kerry.jpg?alt=media&token=3f65d318-d873-4666-918b-a59ad0cffc8b"},{"type":"img","content":"https://firebasestorage.googleapis.com/v0/b/freeguides-prod.appspot.com/o/assets%2Ftours%2FILqgeriivZo3lNiX54Rq%2Fkillarney-national-park-kerry-m.jpg?alt=media&token=3adf7d87-c2f6-40c0-a47c-0fc412c9e1c8"},{"type":"text","content":"Welcome to Killarney National Park! Did you know that this is one of Ireland's first national parks? This beautiful park has stunning natural landscapes and is home to Ireland's highest mountain range. As the fog clears, you will see how magical this place truly is.\n\nAs a local guide, I once heard someone describe Killarney National Park as nature's playground. It's a place where nature truly shines, and the wildlife is abundant. Keep your eyes peeled for the rare red deer that roam these parts.\n\nIn front of us, we have the famous Muckross House, which was once the summer residence of the wealthy Herbert family. Take a stroll through the lush gardens and imagine yourself at a high-end garden party. If you're interested in history, you'll want to check out the Muckross Traditional Farms. Here, you'll find accurate and authentic replicas of Ireland's rural way of life in the 1930s and 1940s.\n\nTake your time and fully explore the park. Walk along the picturesque paths and breathe in the fresh air while taking in the stunning views of the mountains and lakes. I bet you didn't know that this waterfall is approximately 70 feet high and sits at the base of Torc Mountain. As you stand here and take it all in, can you guess how long it took Mother Nature to create something as awe-inspiring as this?\n\nAs a local guide, I've spent countless hours exploring this waterfall and I can honestly say, no two experiences are the same. I once heard someone describe Torc waterfall as a rhythm, almost like a dance between the water and the rocks. Speaking of which, have you noticed the way the water runs and flows over the rocks so effortlessly? It's truly a sight to behold.\n\nAside from its natural beauty, this waterfall holds significant cultural significance for our community. According to my ancestors, the name \"Torc\" comes from \"An Torc Mór\", which translates to \"The Big Boar\". It's said that the ancient Celts used to hunt wild boars in this area, and the waterfall was an essential source of water for them. So not only is this stop a breathtakingly beautiful location, but it's also steeped in history and culture.\n\nI encourage you to take your time and explore the area fully. Don't be afraid to climb up to one of the lookout points for a better view or wade in the shallow streams. You'll also find a hidden gem here at Torc Waterfall - a charming tea house nestled among the trees. It's the perfect place to take a break and enjoy a warm cup of tea after your exploring.\n\nI hope you enjoyed our tour of Killarney! Thank you for joining me and I hope you have a wonderful time exploring this beautiful town on your own.\n\n"},{"type":"audio","content":"https://firebasestorage.googleapis.com/v0/b/freeguides-prod.appspot.com/o/assets%2Ftours%2FILqgeriivZo3lNiX54Rq%2F0416%20(4).MP3?alt=media&token=c08032d7-6b3d-44c1-8f06-565362595157"}]}]
