Highlighting Sydney's favourite ski resorts to have an adventure

The skiing scene in Australia is like no other, being able to glide over the snow next to a forest full of gum trees is something you can only find in this beautiful country. New South Wales is one of the top places to visit if you're looking to ski in Australia, with the resorts only about a few hour's drive away from the CBD, it's a convenient way to spend a few days by travelling there with a car or taking a coach bus for a few hours.

You can discover all the different things you can do in the Australian snow on FreeGuides, where we highlight the best experiences you can have to make the most of your time in the snow!

Perisher Resort

Notably the largest ski resort in the southern hemisphere with 4 resort areas and over 47 lifts, with a large range of different courses to choose from there's one from beginner to expert level skiers. If you ever need to take a break from the snow, there are plenty of on-mountain restaurants to stay warm and grab a hot drink!

Thredbo

Although not as large as Perisher, it is voted the best ski resort in Australia 5 times in a row! During the peak ski season, Thredbo is known for having the longest runs in Australia, so they attract many visitors every single year. Unlike Perisher which primarily has accommodation at the resort, Thredbo is a town with accommodation, shopping and vibrant nightlife.

Charlotte Pass

Charlotte Pass may be the coldest of the bunch, as it's the highest ski resort in Australia, it is the closest village to Mount Kosciuszko. If you visit here, get prepared to immerse yourself in a snowy wonderland as Charlotte Pass is one of the resorts with the least visitors, so get prepared to enjoy the minimal lines, traffic and lift waits. The only way to get here is with oversnow transport, so enjoy the scenic ride while you arrive at the resort!

Mount Selwyn

Located in the most northern part of the snow region in NSW, this is ski resort has a low altitude which allows for any skiers to have an easier time coping with the temperature. Although there is no accommodation at this resort, it's a great place for a day trip with your family whilst staying in any of the major towns nearby. This is the only family-owned and run ski resort in NSW, so check it out and support some of our local legends.
